Retro meets trendy and a nine-finger piano commission: this week on The Green Room

Yana Dee is not your typical seamstress.

She doesn’t use pins. She doesn’t use an iron very often, and she doesn’t use patterns in the traditional sense. She now has a store located in Traverse City’s high-rent downtown. Hear how she makes women’s clothing by combining retro ways with modern trends.

Michael Coonrod performs pieces for left hand Saturday, June 20, at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Plus, renowned concert pianist Michael Coonrod talks about a terrible hand accident in which he recently lost one of his fingers. His friends rallied around him, and have raised more than $18,000 dollars to commission either a piece of music for left hand, or nine fingers, his choice.

There are already a number of celebrated compositions for left hand. Coonrod plans his first post-accident performance Saturday, June 20, as part of the Interlochen Piano Institute Faculty Recital.
