Feeling boxed in, Jetty Rae breaks out new sound

Feb 9, 2017

Jetty Rae is a singer-songwriter who used to live in Charlevoix.

Lately she’s been traveling the country in an Airstream and working on a new sound. She recorded her new album in Nashville— it’s called Can’t Curse the Free

Jetty says she needed to change it up. The percussion is different. There’s more reverb on her voice. The entire treatment of the songs is different.

“I felt like I had kind of put myself in this little folk singer-songwriter box,” she explains. “These songs, to me, felt different. For the first time I felt like I was starting to grow a little bit more as a songwriter where I wasn’t just telling my story, I was telling other people’s stories.”

Can’t Curse the Free comes out next Friday, February 17, and is available for pre-order on iTunes.
