Joshua Davis is now one of six contestants vying for the top spot on "The Voice."

Traverse City resident Joshua Davis advanced to the next round of NBC's reality TV show, The Voice on Tuesday evening. The top eight contestants were whittled down to six, and Davis was the first contestant to be safe this week, after his performance of Fields of Gold by Sting.

The State Theatre says to plan for a "live Joshua Davis Hometown Concert" Thursday, May 7 at 7:30 pm. Fans can line up on the afternoon of the show. Ticketing is first come, first served. Doors will open at 6:45 pm.

Kate Botello spoke with Davis on Friday.

"It's been incredible," says Davis of his experience on the show. "It's been an amazing growing process."

Though he's enjoying his hectic time doing interviews and going to different rehearsals, Davis is also looking forward to getting back to normal life.

"After The Voice, I get to go back to doing what I do," he says. "Yesterday, we were playing this big outside concert...and it just made me homesick for festival season in Michigan, and made me homesick for playing my own stuff and playing more than just one song a night."

Davis says the format has been a challenging adjustment for him. "What I do is play original music, what I am is a songwriter. And what I do is play a couple sets a night," Davis says. "It's been tough to not do that...and not be playing my music."

However, Davis says he has drawn a lot of inspiration from what's happened to him over the past couple of months. "I've already started writing some stuff to make a new album," he says.
