Detroit's Techstars hosted a startup weekend in May.

Stateside’s conversation with Daniel Howes, Detroit News business columnist.

There’s good news to talk about in the re-invention of Detroit and the push to wean Michigan’s economy away from big manufacturing.

Detroit News business columnist Daniel Howes thinksMichigan is “open for business, again.”

According to a new report by Michigan Venture Capital Association, Detroit start-ups have jumped 50% in the last three years.

“You are seeing car companies ... now are acting more and more like entrepreneurial startups, to move more quickly, to be more decisive,” Howes said. "And I think that is all net, net very good for Michigan and the Detroit business community."

Listen above for the full conversation and learn Howe's opinion on how car companies can support local startups and the Good Jobs bill that passed in the Michigan House yesterday.
