G.T. Long chats with Jesus in 'Another Sunday in Horton Bay'

Morgan Springer
'Another Sunday in Horton Bay' is GT Long's first book.

What would it be like if Jesus Christ visited you periodically, and you chatted for a while? G.T. Long imagined just that and wrote about his interactions with Jesus in Facebook posts for the past two years. Then this year, he turned those posts into a book called Another Sunday in Horton Bay.

In one excerpt from August 23rd, Long describes seeing Jesus in his yard playing with wild turkeys. Long says to Jesus, "I thought that was more for kids."

Jesus sat down on a log and smiled. Do you think you were put on this earth to toil? To be serious all the time? To always be in control? To always plan every little thing you do? No. You were born in this world to discover the sacred spark inside you, the spark of self expression.

In the book, Jesus has a lot of messages for Long, and Long describes Jesus as this regular guy doing regular things who hasn’t performed any miracles yet.

Long tells IPR he's not religious; he's spiritual. He says he doesn't plan the excerpts or posts that he writes on Facebook, they just come to him.

Long has lived in Horton Bay for 36 years and this is his first book. He works for the Michigan Democratic Party.

You can find copies of G.T. Long’s book Another Sunday in Horton Bay at the Horton Bay General Store and in some locations in Boyne City. It’s also available online.
