The Emmet County administrator was fired by county commissioners last night. After a closed-door discussion at a commission meeting that lasted almost two hours, commissioners unanimously decided to fire Marty Krupa effective immediately.
"It was kind of unexpected," Matt Mikus, a reporter for the Petoskey News-Review, told IPR.
Mikus says commissioners said they were concerned about the transfer of money from one branch of the county to another without approval from the board of commissioners. He says state law requires board approval. The money was transferred to cover the costs of a number of construction projects.
Mikus adds Krupa is not suspected of doing something illegal, but commissioners say he improperly moved money within the county.
