Elon Cameron

Elon Cameron studied photography, printmaking and bookbinding at the Art Institute of Chicago but wasn’t sure that was her life work.  “I had a longing for a career calling but I didn’t know what it was,” she says.

Meanwhile, she was breaking out in hives every day and couldn’t find help.  Finally she traveled to Chicago’s south side to visit a Chinese doctor.  “He took my pulses, looked at my tongue, and gave me some herbal concoctions,” she says. “In six days, the hives were gone and never came back.”  Elon had not only found relief; she had found her calling—and soon enrolled at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago.  “After the first class,” she recalls, “I said, ‘This is where I belong—where I’ve always been a member and finally arrived.”

Today, after twenty years of study, Elon practices acupuncture and herbal medicine in Traverse City.  “Energy moves through our body like electricity through a house,” she says. “Acupuncture is like turning the light on in one room.”

“My favorite thing about my job is my job,” Elon says.  “I like it when people feel better.  After all, acupuncture has 3,000 years of history so there isn’t much it doesn’t treat. “
