The Crown of Dawn

While Jupiter and Venus still dazzle us from the West at sunset all week, there's a celestial treat unfolding in the East before sunrise that's worth getting up for!

An hour before sunrise later this week, so about 5 am Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Moon will be moving through the region of Taurus, the Bull. This will be a beautiful sight, especially with binoculars. The Moon will be a waning crescent, and will very much look like the Bull's horns, which calls to mind the sacred imagery of the Egyptian Goddess Isis~patroness of health, marriage, and wisdom.

The symbols of Isis are the Moon, the cow's horns, and the solar disc. Sometimes she is depicted with cow's horns on her head, surrounding a solar disc. Sometimes she's depicted with a cow's head in place of her own, always with horns.

The cow's horns are thought to focus cosmic energy, so Isis, a Divine Feminine, has an intimate role as guardian goddess of starry worlds, both by day and by night.

This weekend she'll appear in her 'nighttime' aspect, with Taurus as the cow's head and the Crescent Moon as her horns, to focus the cosmic light toward dawn.

In the Ancient Mysteries, Isis was always completely veiled by a scarlet cloth. to remove her veil was to incur certain and sudden death. But for the initiated that learned her mysteries, Isis would lift her veil, but the initiated were then bound to remain forever silent about what they then saw.

Start looking for this ancient mystery in the eastern sky on Saturday, and watch each morning as the Crescent Moon crowns the region of the Bull, revealing the season's sacred mysteries, and demonstrating why Isis was also regarded as the Goddess that caused truth to be considered beautiful.
