Johannes Brahms published three violin sonatas during his lifetime. Violinist Tasmin Littleand pianist Piers Lane present complete performances of all three sonatas on a new album from Chandos.
In the early 1850s, Brahms met the celebrated violinist Joseph Joachim. Joachim inspired many of the pieces that Brahms would write for the violin over the next several decades. Brahms composed his Violin Concerto, Piano Quintet and all three of the violin sonatas with Joachim in mind.
