Chris Brubeck in conversation with Classical IPR

Chris Brubeck and the rest of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet will perform this Saturday night in Traverse City. In addition to being a bassist, a bass trombonist and a jazz composer, Brubeck is also a classical composer. Just last week, the Lexington Philharmonic and Canadian Brass gave the premiere performance of Brubeck's "No Borders."

Chris Brubeck spoke with Classical IPR's Amanda Sewell about the concerto premiere (one reviewer praised its "relentless and optimistic rhythmic drive"), the Brubeck Brothers Quartet's upcoming visit to Northern Michigan and what it was like writing a strictly classical piece for Canadian Brass.

Hear the entire interview below. The Brubeck Brothers Quartet is performing at the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City Saturday night at 8 p.m. Click here for more information.

Dr. Amanda Sewell is IPR's music director.
