Brad's Picks

Accordion and bandoneon virtuoso Peter Soave performs this Sunday at West Shore Community College in Scottville.

Accordion music isn't all that popular in the US, especially after the rise of Rock-n-roll. But there's something tremendous about the instrument when it's played well. And Soave, who  has a home in southeast Michigan, plays it well.

Years ago Mark Stryker, a critic for the Detroit Free Press, described Soave's playing for IPR:

"When Peter plays, there is nothing gimmicky about what he does. It's all extraordinarily musical because it's coming from a very deep place in his soul. And he has filtered that passion through an extraordinary, high level of craft the way all great artists do. And it comes out as music, sort of soulful music."

Peter Soave performs original works Sunday at 2:00 at West Shore Community College's Center Stage Theatre in Scottville.
